Socials 10

Today was the first class with grade tens!!

It was wonderful to meet (re-meet) everyone.

We began with a look at the course outline.  This can be picked up from me.

We then looked at a blank map of Canada.  Everyone was asked to write down as much information about Canada as possible.

Students were informed of the learning outcomes for the day:
1) know the 10 provinces and 3 territories of Canada
2) know the names and regions of Canada's physiography
3) understand the difference between heartland and hinterland

Students watched short clip:

We then looked at a power point presentation and students were handed out the presentation in note forma.  You can find the powerpoint by googling:

The Physical Geography of Canada.ppt

I also have more copies.

Students were then asked to read p.24-27 in the Green Handbook.  Students need to understand the difference between hinterland and heartland.  Students will be quizzed on heartland and hinterland, as well as the six physiographic regions next class.

Finally, students began a short inquiry project on a region of their choice.
