SS 10: Reminders from June 7 2012

Today students began with notes on Bits and Pieces of Canadian History.

Students then completed the following task:


To date, place in order Canada’s greatest accomplishment to its most shocking policy and defend your reasons.
A.Environmental Policy
B.Canadian Economy
C.Treatment of Aboriginal Peoples
D.Avoiding Annexation of the US
E.Creating the CPR
F.Creating a Nation from Sea to Sea

I.Maintaining a Sense of Nationalism in a Vast Land
J.Treatment of Immigrants

Finally, students were given a review package for the final exam.  This review package will need to be complete in order to get into the review session.

EN 10: Reminders from June 7 2012

Today students completed an in-class quiz on the story from yesterday's class, The Most Dangerous Game.  This was to be handed in at the end of class.

Grade Seven Band Concert

Congratulations to the grade sevens who participated in a band concert at the elementary school today!

You were wonderful.  I cannot wait to see your performance this coming Monday.  Make sure to practice hard over the weekend so that your student conductors can be wowed!

Reminders from June 6 2012

Today students began with integrated quotation practice.  Students were required to incorporate five quotations into their own responses to five questions.

Next, students began reading Richard Connell's The Most Dangerous Game.  Students read all but the last two pages in class and are required to complete the rest for homework.  We will begin a related assignment in class tomorrow.

Reminders from June 6 2012

Today students began with a journal entry.  Any students required to make up work, did so at this time.

Next, we began reading Richard Connell's The Most Dangerous Game.  Students read about one third of the way through and then created an ending based on their own predictions.  If this was not handed in at the the end of class, it is to be completed for homework by Monday, June 11 2012.

Students will have a quiz on grammar next class.

EN 10: Reminders from June 5 2012

Today students began by completing the task from last day:

Choose four comprehension questions from the handout attached to the story, The Lottery.  Students must incorporate a quotation from Shirley Jackson's story into their own response.  Each quotation must have no more than four words.

These were due at the end of class.

Today students began by taking notes on the Colony of BC.

Students then had the remainder of the class to complete their newspapers or the BC project.

There are only FOUR classes left.  Please make sure that you are using your class-time wisely.

EN 10: Reminders from June 4 2012

Today students began by writing what they might do if they won the lottery.  We then shared some of the ideas.

Next, we compiled a list of various lotteries.

Then, we read The Lottery by Shirley Jackson.  Students then answered comprehension questions in groups.  Students will choose four of the questions and answer them in full sentences, finding quotations to back up their ideas.  Students may only use four words in each quotation!

EN 9: Reminders of June 4 2012


Today students started by completing a grammar quiz.

After watching a brief slideshow on the Irish War of Independence, students listened to the song Zombie by The Cranberries.  Finally, students read The Sniper by Liam O'Flaherty.  Finally, students responded to some comprehension questions.

There will be another grammar quiz on Wednesday.

EN 10: Reminders from June 1 2012

Today students read the short story, The Interlopers.  Students then answered the questions in the book.  Finally, students wrote an acrostic poem using the word "ironic" and related components of both The Interlopers and The Sniper.

Today students had the opportunity to work with Mr Marshall.  Mr Marshall worked with students on writing paragraphs.

Students then continued with their BC Project.

Read pages 169-172 (L-O) in the Student Handbook.
