Students began the class by miming a scene from the novel Of Mice and Men. The rest of the class had to guess which scene had been performed.
Students and I then read some selections from chapter 3. Students were then introduced to two different types of question: recall and respond and critical thinking.
An example of recall and respond might be:
How does Lennie hurt Curley's hand?
An example of a critical thinking question might be:
What do you think Lennie was thinking when he crushed Curley's hand?
Students were then asked to generate a question of their own from each category.
For homework: Students must make sure that they have read chapters 1-3.
