Good Morning Grade Tens!

Please read pages 61-65 in the Green Handbook.  Then, complete Exercise 14.  Since we are going to be having the confederation debate ourselves, it is important to understand what went on during these conferences.

Once that is complete, please check the following link:

The cartoons all represent the idea of an American Annexation of the British Colonies prior to Canada's Confederation.  This is how people in the 1800s saw and mocked this very real possibility.

Once everyone has gone through the political cartoons, perhaps Brenna could read the following:

"Imagine that the US was about to annex Canada today. How would it affect Society, Politics, Economics, Religion, Military, and Geography?  Feel free to discuss this with a group of people in the class.  Once you have considered some possibilities, in partners or on your own, create your own political cartoon.

Remember that a political cartoon satirizes (or makes fun of) the event in question.  In other words, consider your initial response to the idea that in a week you could become an American citizen.  What would that mean to you personally.  If it would mean nothing, that in itself could be the basis for the cartoon.

(for example, a kid could be sitting and playing video games and be so wrapped up in his/her own virtual world, that he/she doesn't even notice... the joke could be that Americans could take over and we wouldn't even notice)"

Thanks Brenna.

Feel free to work on this the whole class.  If you do finish however, take the leftover time to work on your Fakebook Pages if incomplete.
