Today students wrote in their journals for 20 minutes. The topic was free choice.
We then watched this classic school house rock cartoon on prepositions:

Students were then timed for one minute while they wrote down as many prepositions as they could.
Students were then provided a handout on nouns and asked to highlight all of the nouns in each sentence. On the reverse side was a passage from a short story. Students were asked to highlight the nouns found in the first two paragraphs.
Finally, students spent some time reviewing their odes and other poems, correcting spelling and punctuation.
Students will be asked to write a poem for the district anthology that will be put together in June.
