Friday, March 27 2015: English 8/9 (1)

Today students had a quiz on the nine Poetic Devices we have covered in class.

Once this was complete, students were asked to find the lyrics of a song (without too many curse words...) for which we could analyze.

I provided an initial example using the Mother Mother song, 'Get Out The Way'.

Students then took to the task using their own chosen songs.

Once students had identified and labeled numerous poetic devices in their songs, I introduced their upcoming poetry project.

This project is due:  THURSDAY, APRIL 9 2015

The criteria can be seen below:

You must choose at least six more devices to identify (choose any from those above, or explore more devices!): 2 marks each (3 marks for the first new device you attempt to explore)=total 12 (or more if you take the challenge)

Artistry

This project should demonstrate visually artistic elements as well as literary artistic elements.  You will be awarded a total of 8 marks for visual pleasantness based on the rubric provided on the back.  As well, you will be awarded 20 marks for your overall literary artistry (in other words, do your words paint a picture?  is your poetry sensible, meaningful, powerful?).  Again, use the rubric on the back to help you with the content of your poems.
