Once this was complete, students were asked to find the lyrics of a song (without too many curse words...) for which we could analyze.
I provided an initial example using the Mother Mother song, 'Get Out The Way'.
Students then took to the task using their own chosen songs.
Once students had identified and labeled numerous poetic devices in their songs, I introduced their upcoming poetry project.
This project is due: THURSDAY, APRIL 9 2015
The criteria can be seen below:

artistic elements as well as literary artistic elements. You will be awarded a total of 8 marks for visual pleasantness based
on the rubric provided on the back. As
well, you will be awarded 20 marks
for your overall literary artistry (in other words, do your words paint a
picture? is your poetry sensible,
meaningful, powerful?). Again, use the
rubric on the back to help you with the content of your poems.
