English 8/9 (1)

Today students began by completing a peer evaluation of a character sketch.  This was done to:

1) have a better understanding of what is required to exceed on the assignment

2) work in a collaborative way with members in the class

Students then collectively brainstormed a list in bullet form on George from Of Mice and Men.  This procedure will need to be copied by each student on a character from their own individual novel.  This should then be turned into a paragraph.  This process can be seen below:

Model Bullet Form Information:

Model Paragraph:

George, from Of Mice and Men, was forced to shoot his best friend.  George is the protagonist of this story.  It is difficult to decide whether he is round or flat.  This is because he was mostly angry, but showed a soft side to Lenny, his friend.  George goes through a lasting change by losing his best friend, proving that he is a dynamic character.  This novel couldn’t go on without George.  This is because he is not only the main character, but also the theme of friendship throughout the novel would be lost.  Lenny would be helpless without George.  He probably would not even be alive because the “people’s justice would have taken over.  In this novel, George had a dream, but in the end, his dream became a nightmare.

Students then had the rest of the class to work towards completion of their character sketch webs and their character information paragraph.

Please see previous posts for the rubric.
