Socials 9

Students were asked to hand in their inquiry projects.

We then watched 30 minutes of a documentary on Napoleon Bonaparte.

Students were then asked to write a power paragraph together as a class on the French Revolution.  We started by generating a web:

We then began by making sure to have a catching topic sentence, transitions between thoughts, and a strong conclusion:

The French Revolution was horrible, in fact, 1200 people died in three days.  Though sabres were used to kill these people, the guillotine was used to kill most other people.  The guillotine was a relatively painless method of execution, which was used to kill nobility, royals, and peasants.  In fact, Louis XVI was killed using this very device, abolishing the absolute monarch.  The main event that kick-started a revolution was widespread famine.  While these things seem unpleasant, they were necessary to ensure a brighter France.

Finally, students were asked to generate a web (as above) on the British Civil War.  Students will use this web next class to write their own power paragraphs.
